IRREGULAR UPDATE #4: Here We Go Again (6 Feb 2004)

So much for prompt updates. *embarrassed smile*

A new chapter has been posted for Powerstar. He's finally engaged the Complex, so his story is finally picking up steam. However, the WonderQuest project is currently on hiatus due to other priorities. When we make significant progress on the game, either for the quick-play version or the complete core rulebook, we will update again.

For now, enjoy the adventures of Powerstar. With luck, the next update won't be as irregular as this one, but then, that's what we said last time, so we won't be providing dates until we have something more closely resembling hard information.

IRREGULAR UPDATE #3: Aiming for Conjecture (25 July 2003)

Okay, after a lot of work on several different projects, none of which included WonderQuest, the timeline has been revised again. However, thanks to a new service from Cafe Press, we hope to have an abbreviated version of the full WonderQuest book available by early October. This version will include the complete Five-Scale system, with the setting information added at a later date. The current plan is to include two settings with the full book, including the Empowered universe. A quick-play variant may become available after that point.

In other news, the email list is now on Yahoo groups. You can join the list by using the subscribe box on this page, going to the WonderQuest page on yahoo, or sending an email to (this is the best option for people who don't want to create a yahoo profile). We also have an online store at Cafe Press; when the book is complete, it will be available there. In the meantime, we have shameless-promotion merchandise there in the form of Powerstar and WQ-logo products. <g>

Our apologies for the long delay. Hopefully, the next update will come in a more prompt manner, but they're called Irregular Updates for a reason. :-)

IRREGULAR UPDATE #2: Powerstar Exists! (5 Mar 2003)

Alas, freelance assignments have stopped progress on the game itself for the moment. Also, due to the difficulty in wading through various legalese, the first quick-play version of WonderQuest will be copyrighted in the traditional manner (though the download will still be free). However, there is an email list for those who want to be notified when the site is updated.

Best of all, the adventures of Powerstar continue! Chapter One is now on line, as our hero begins to explore his powers and use them for good. Naturally, his life is about to get considerably more complicated...

The next Irregular Update probably won't be forthcoming until at least mid-April, when the paying writing is complete. Nevertheless, the Quest for Wonder continues.

THE (FIRST) IRREGULAR UPDATE: 2 Feb 2003

Welcome to the brand-spanking-new WonderQuest web site for the still-in-development WonderQuest Role-Playing Game™! WonderQuest will be the standard for cinematic role-playing in the modern tradition, capable of handling high adventure where heroes of all power levels (and we do mean all power levels) can work together in any genre.

Those looking for realistic game mechanics or a system in which main characters can die quick and messy deaths would do better to look elsewhere; WonderQuest's Five-Scale system allows heroes to annihilate extras by the truckload, but major characters are more resilient. Role-players looking for a system in which they can dance through hordes of jack-booted goons without working up a sweat and then engage in a tense one-on-one sword duel with a legendary tyrant, on the other hand, should be very happy with WonderQuest.

It is our hope and intent to make Five-Scale completely available to the RPG development community through an Open Content agreement that allows Intellectual Properties to remain protected, while ensuring that all actual rules content becomes available to everyone using the Five-Scale engine. This is the promise of the Open Content movement, and we hope to help fulfill that promise with the creation of WonderQuest.

While the complete rule book is still in the early development stages, quick-play rules are nearly complete and (time allowing) will be available free of charge within the next several weeks. Feel free to visit the site irregularly for the Irregular Update.

As the creator, sole writer, lead developer and head marketer (all one person) is also working a full-time job and doing freelance writing, updates will be somewhat irregular for the time being. Hence the title of this section.

In spite of the in-development nature of the site, however, there is actual content to be found here! The origin of Powerstar, WonderQuest's signature character, can be found in his section of the website. As WonderQuest moves towards release, Powerstar will begin to delve into the mysteries of the first WonderQuest setting, the world of the Empowered. Enjoy!
